Literally, “revision” means “re-seeing.” Revision is the step in the writing process in which you work to view your paper from a different perspective, as if you were someone else (your audience, for example). Revision is first and foremost about large-scale concerns like analysis, organization, ideas, voice, style, and tone.1. Help students understand the different purposes of writing. Students should understand the purpose of each genre (to describe, to narrate, to inform, or to persuade/analyze) so that they can select the genre best suited to their writing task. 2. Expand students’ concept of audience.
